So we went into the second lycanthrope cavern. Still not sure what we're doing here, but it's clearly smarter to go into the part of the caverns where the lycanthropes aren't. We met a lycathrope woman named Tressa. For some obscure reason, she was pissed off at us for killing their lycanthrope wolf cubs (sorry!). We decided to be all peaceful-like, and hope she could help us negotiate with the bigger nastier l-people, so we could explore the back caverns.
On the way out of that cavern, we got assaulted by assassins; they seemed like wizard-thieves. They webbed us (poetic justice, that!), and beat Vernon unconscious, and then ran away (huh?). Malif thinks it's because he fireballed us (sigh), killing the web, and we got out a lot faster than they thought we would. Seems pretty wimpy to me. Tressa also helped us out; apparently Vernon had given her some money (very smart!). Malif did try to counter-web the wimpy bad guys before they could get away. We succeeded in capturing one of them. OK, well, he was dead, but we hoped to be able to beat some info out of his corpse, so we stashed him in the bag of holding. How did they find us? Malif hadn't detected any scrying for days. All I can think of is that they must have been tracking us. Wimpy though they are, it will certainly lend a new flavor to keeping watch - good thing we're going with the "rope trick fortress" thing.
We found a cleric to speak with corpse-guy. Their headquarters is in
Broaga (in foothills near Yogar), they found us because "Sumter
followed you" (I think tracking, or maybe the flying familiar trick),
and he didn't know the name of their organization (what, they couldn't
think of a name either?).
