We entered the dream, again, this time. The portal was marked by a sword and two broken sticks. Some assembly required, apparently.

I'm trying to think of what might have triggered the dream. That might lead to a useful clue about what to do in the real world, should we fail in the dream like usual.

The period in which the dream was triggered involved the following events:

  • We encountered Ebullience, a being of pure magic, who said some inscrutable things and warned us about feeding his bretheren with non-pure magic

  • We negotiated a cavern full of strange insects, mostly by dimension-dooring past it.

  • We met up with some Slaad, who were willing to negotiate passage through their territory, though dire warnings were issued about the fatal consequences should we return.

  • We got a little closer to the Drow areas.

  • We went back to talk to Rillan, and found that the cauldron has come, destroyed his home, sent us a message, and left.

It's hard to see what any of these has to do with our dream. My first suspicion was that it had to do with the cauldron, but the dream doesn't seem to have anything to do with that whole issue, so it must be something else.

It seems like the possibilities are the magic beings, but I don't really see what they could have to do with it. We could talk to them about it, I guess. It could be the Slaad -- they could have the sword we've seen, in which case we need to get it from them. Or it could be the Drow, and finally getting close enough to them is what triggered it.

My guess is the Slaad. We didn't actually interact with the Drow. So I think we should go talk to them. Or fight our way in, or something. It'd be worth it, for an artifact.
