How do you tell when someone is good? How do you know when someone sounds reasonable but is really up to something nefarious?

So we met this woman named Tamsen. We knew something of her already from the stories that Errol told us. She has killed maybe hundreds of people, many of whom (caravanners, random people in the castle) were likely innocent. At the very least, she is deadly and without mercy.

When we met her, she was about to be attacked. Some local militia were forcing the villagers to attack her, so she said. And sure enough, when the attack came, there were a bunch of villagers in front, and a bunch of militia pushing them around. And she was careful not to kill the villagers.

So what she said seemed to have held up, and her concern for the innocent was impressive. So we decided to help her in her quest to destroy the nobles in the castle who had killed her partner.

At this point, we asked about innocents in the castle, and she said, "If they are in the castle, they are supporting the current ruler, and will die." Wow. I guess that could be true, but it's if nothing else a troubling sentiment.

Anyway, we went with her to the castle, and sure enough killed everyone inside. All the nobles at least. If she's telling the truth about them, they all had it coming... but we didn't give them a chance.

Well... we'll know, eventually, I hope, whether we did the right thing or not. We either helped right a great wrong or participated in a bloody, unjust massacre. I think we did the right thing.

I hope we did the right thing.
