The portal was marked by a sword and two broken sticks. Some assembly required, apparently. I'm trying to think of what might have triggered the dream. That might lead to a useful clue about what to do in the real world, should we fail in the dream like usual. The period in which the dream was triggered involved the following events:
It's hard to see what any of these has to do with our dream. My first suspicion was that it had to do with the cauldron, but the dream doesn't seem to have anything to do with that whole issue, so it must be something else. It seems like the possibilities are the magic beings, but I don't really see what they could have to do with it. We could talk to them about it, I guess. It could be the Slaad -- they could have the sword we've seen, in which case we need to get it from them. Or it could be the Drow, and finally getting close enough to them is what triggered it.
My guess is the Slaad. We didn't actually interact with the Drow. So I think we should go talk to them. Or fight our way in, or something. It'd be worth it, for an artifact.
