I had been wondering if there was something special about us, but I had no idea. I don't know how I feel about reincarnation or destiny. I guess it's time I thought about it.

I've talked before in this journal about the disproportionate impact we, Tera's boys, seem to have on the world. I'm beginning to think that this is merely a symptom of something else going on.

We learned today about another group who, like us, grew abnormally quickly in power, had strange puzzling group dreams, and rested uneasily inside society. They went on the found a city, but their lives ended in failure as the city was destroyed in conflict, and is now inhabited only by the dead and undead.

I think there's a lesson to be learned, there. They founded a city away from the Belar, loking for a place for humans to truly call their own. But greed and strife tore the city apart. I wonder if that's humanity's destiny, except for the benevolence of the Belar.

Or, it's possible that the lesson is not about the Belar per se, but instead about hubris and confidence. They rejected all of society, and thought they could found a better one, and failed. They were paladins, most of them, and the other one was a priest, so it doesn't seem like they were likely to be evil, and failed that way. Maybe their problem was in the other direction, where they were too classically good to understand greed and iniquity, and account for it.

Well, with Malif and Vaugner in the party, that won't be my problem.

Anyway, the whole thing is odd. I wonder what our big task will be, and if we will fail as miserably. It doesn't seem likely that we're actually them reincarnated or something, because there are 6 of us and only 4 of them. Though this was a long time ago, so the accounts might be garbled.

I wonder if Tera knew them?
