Lycanthropes. Nasty.

We just fought a couple of them, and won pretty handily pretty much because of web -- dividing the whole battlefield is a really powerful tactic. And we do love it.

But even a couple of wereboars did a fair amount of damage. We decided not to chase the tiger into the back of the cave system, which may end up being a mistake. When we came back the next day, a little tracking showed that he had friends, which we didn't expect. Actually, it looks like there's a decently large community of lycanthropes around here.

I also wonder a bit about where these guys stand on the whole good-evil spectrum. They are not evil in at least some sense, since we have a magic item that protects us to some extent from evil beings, and they were unaffected. This worries me -- are we randomly attacking creatures that are just living out by themselves, harming nobody?

But the villagers told us that there were disappearances, and it sure seems likely that the lycanthropes are to blame. And we did try to parley with the tiger, and it ignored us, so we at least tried to make sure to give them a chance to tell their side of the story.

I think I'm feeling that we haven't done anything wrong here. There's reason to believe that they are capturing random villagers, they acted in a hostile way towards us, and the fact that according to magical sources they are not technically evil doesn't trouble me too much.

If they *are* innocent, why not talk to us? I hope that this isn't some nasty misunderstanding precipitated by our killing a bit too quickly... but at least for now I will continue to believe we're on the side of light and goodness.

Big fight tomorrow, probably. Hope we live through this.
