I'm beginning to wonder just how much of the world I understand. I mean, I know I don't really know much of anything, but I knew a few things. I'm talking about the Belar.

The Belar are wise, and gentle, and powerful, and everything that we should aspire to be. At least, I used to think that. I guess I still do, but still....

For instance, Klaus. He was clearly not a good guy. I guess there can be bad Belar, but I hadn't ever heard of any. But that doesn't worry me as much as Tera's explanation. She said he was crazy, and killed himself, and that was that. I guess it sort of explains things, but it also sounds just like what you would say to someone if you wanted to pawn off some cheap cover story.

The reason I worry about that is it doesn't seem much like Tera, or the other Belar I know. If there were things that we are too naive to understand, that's fine, but she could have just said that to us. Instead she gave us what sounds like a really flimsy cover story, which doesn't even explain the mustery of the statue.

But on the other hand, Tera is really smart, smarter than all of us for sure. It definitely seems odd to me that she would give us a story that we would be suspicious of. Maybe she *wants* us to see through it, for some reason? Is she giving us a clue? Why be so oblique?

Or, I guess, maybe it's really the truth, and that's why she told us. It's hard to think of a reason why she would make up a story that sounds like a story, but it just seems so unlikely.

Sigh. The world was simpler last week.
